Social Rides
Rideouts are CWAM’s opportunity to enjoy the open road and visit new places. They come in all shapes and sizes from a local run of a few hours to all day tours further afield. There is enough information on the Events Diary for you to decide if the run is suitable for you. Rideout leaders ensure there are sufficient fuel stops, comfort breaks and refreshments along the way. They offer associates an opportunity to improve their confidence as they see the more experienced riders in action. For full members, they’re a good excuse to eat up the miles with their mates. Whether a full or associate member, as with all CWAM group activities, they are above all an occasion for socialising and enjoying yourself.
Group Riding Techniques
It is essential that those wishing to join a CWAM rideout familiarise with the system adopted when riding as a member of group by. These are outlined in the Members' Area.
In CWAM, we follow the buddy system (as opposed to the second man drop-off system). This keeps the order of the group throughout the ride rather than have members change position, so that each rider between the ride leader and the Tail-End Charlie/Sweeper familiarises themselves with the person in front and behind.
It has the advantage of keeping those who are inexperienced or who prefer a more leisurely ride towards the front of the group where the ride leader can gauge the pace. We request that associates ride at the front of the group. This eliminates any bravado on the one hand or inferiority complex on the other.
CWAM Trips
CWAM occasionally offers longer trips lasting 3 - 6 days. These are incredibly popular and we have enjoyed tours of The Lakes & North Yorks Moors, Wales and Scotland.
