Passport to Europe - June Club Night
Nick Lilley, Wednesday, 18 June 2025
I seem to remember at time when going on holiday abroad simply meant slapping a GB sticker on your car boot, catching the ferry at Dover and remembering to drive on the wrong side of the road for the next fortnight. This is no longer the case as I learnt when John Chivers led us through the dos and don’ts of riding in Europe at CWAM’s June Club Night.
Lack of a low emissions Crit'Air vignette in France could make one liable to a substantial on the spot fine. If you’re tempted to flaunt the speed limits, Switzerland is definitely not the place to be caught because you will be fined a truly eye watering number of Swiss Francs along with the possibility of having your bike confiscated if you’ve been really silly.
There was a lot of audience participation with questions and quite a few personal anecdotes. Altogether an enjoyable and informative session thanks to the comprehensive package put together by John at very short notice.
The even more pleasurable part of the evening was the presentation of test pass certificates.

Alasdair Cadden was given his certificate by Andy Spenser ilo his observer Paul Harris who was on CWAM’s Northern England Tour.

David Summers was presented with his certificate by his observer Doug Vincent-Squibb.
The next Club Night is a bit special when, courtesy of Dave Shakespeare, there will be a "mirrorless" truck on display at Shilton Village Hall. Wednesday 9th July.
